CBD DIY: Using Isolate to Make Your Own Tinctures

Dec 19, 2017

There has been a rise in CBD users choosing to go the DIY route, creating their own CBD tinctures, edibles, and more, in order to cut costs and have more control over their doses. If you’re interested in diving into the do-it-yourself world which seems to have taken over the internet in recent years then we’re happy to help guide you through what you’ll need and how to turn your CBD isolate into a sublingual tincture!

First, you will need to start with your CBD. Here at The CBD Plug, we offer+99% pure CBD isolate, sourced from one of the largest USDA certified organic hemp farms in the United States. The amount of CBD you will need depends on how high of a dose you require, our CBD is over 99% pure meaning in a single gram there are nearly 1,000 milligrams of pure CBD. While it is possible to create CBD products from raw plant material such as hemp buds we find that using CBD isolate is the easiest place to start.

You will also need a carrier oil to dissolve the CBD in, some of the most popular options are hemp seed oil, olive oil, and MCT oil. Deciding which of these oils is best for you can depend heavily on taste preference. Since CBD isolate is tasteless it mixes well with any oil. MCT oil is perfect for anyone looking for a tasteless tincture, great for mixing with food like smoothies if you’re looking to switch it up. Meanwhile, if you choose to go the route of olive or hemp seed oil, your tincture will have the taste associated with these oils. Once you’ve picked your carrier oil and received your CBD isolate you’re almost ready to combine the two. Below is a list of the additional products we recommend to move forward.

Now that you have all of the necessary ingredients and tools, you need to measure out the amount of CBD you’re looking to add to your tincture. If you’re looking for a tincture upwards of 1,000mg you will need to use a full gram of CBD isolate, 500mg will require 1/2 gram, and so on. Once you have the CBD measured out using the scale use the mini scoop/spoon to transfer your CBD to the dropper bottle. Finally, you will need to carefully add the oil, fill to the top and allow tincture to sit until fully dissolved. You can also shake the bottle to speed up the process. If you’re noticing the CBD is still floating around after a while or just can’t wait to try it you can take the bottle and set it in some hot water until it’s totally emulsified.
